“Dreamscapes” - MCA’s 6th Annual ‘BEST' Juried Art Exhibition

Marion Cultural Alliance is thrilled to present the sixth annual juried art exhibition, "Dreamscapes: Beyond Reality" in celebration of 100 years of Surrealism. This exhibition presents a unique opportunity for local artists to delve into the world of the subconscious, the fantastical, and the bizarre, and to showcase their unique interpretations of a century-old art movement that continues to captivate and inspire.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: The inspiration for this piece was when an Art teacher instructed a class I was attending to get a blank piece of paper and do a pencil drawing. The piece I am submitting is the drawing I did to complete the assignment.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: Exploring my resent fascination with tattoos, I wanted to do something exotic. Exploring the lattice pattern I've been playing around with, this one has three views of the same image, COLOR, representing her day to day life, how everyone sees her, B&W, is how things really are, bills, relationships, etc... and through ROSE COLORED GLASSES, her dream world...

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: Destruction of habitat in the Mohave Desert to build solar farms brought this idea to my imagination. It disturbed me they would destroy the habitat of species already struggling to survive, like the Joshua Trees. It is a nightmare for those living things to have their environment ravaged, their energy sacrificed to bring electrical energy to people far away. My dreamscape is not a happy one.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: Cats seem to hold secrets, and my resident feline guards the secrets of her former life. I'm fascinated with her eyes, so my attention turned to her eyes and then to her multi-faceted way of living in her world. A result of playing with new camera equipment, this image reveals the essence of her cat-ness.
